On its 100th anniversary, KLM gave every passenger a special present, namely an Amsterdam canal house with a bell gable, made from old uniforms worn by KLM stewardesses, produced by subcontractor PIANT.
KLM´s objectives support the re-using of products as much as possible. After years of good service, the uniforms are being replaced by new ones. The material of the old uniforms is of such quality that it can still be used for other purposes. The iconic blue colour returns in the newly created products.
The creators of the little houses are recipients of long-term welfare payments who are being helped to get back into regular employment. The social workshop is specialized in making products from recycled felt, and they received assistance from PIANT to achieve a smooth production process. We contributed to the shaping of the felt. The material was delivered on a roll.
